Dr. Leon Chen and Dr. Jennifer Cha

“Hydraulic Sinus Condensing”

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Course Fee: $895 (10% donated to IDREF)

An inadequate alveolar bone height below the maxillary sinus is a frequent anatomical restriction for the prosthetic rehabilitation of the upper jaw with endosteal implants. Within the sinus cavity there are more anatomical restrictions to ideal implant location, such as a sloping sinus floor, the presence of septa, etc. A new surgical internal crestal approach for implant placement in deficient alveolar ridges is presented. Burs and drills of increasing width used with air and water pressure allow the surgeon to approach the membrane without risk of tearing it. The study is supported by 1,100 cases and an 8-year follow-up of implants that were inserted in the alveolar ridge heights that varied between <1 to 5 mm. The results of this investigation suggest that this is a reliable, less invasive and predictable technique for the prosthetic rehabilitation of the maxillary posterior regions in the presence of anatomical restrictions for dental implant placement.

Dr. Arun K. Garg and Dr. Paul Petrungaro

“Block Grafting with Tissue Bank Bone for Ridge Width and Height”

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Course Fee: $975 (10% donated to IDREF)

Allografts have been used for years as viable alternatives to autogenous grafts. They eliminate many of the disadvantages associated with autogenous grafts, including morbidity, limited volume and dimension of bone, and harvesting time. This full day comprehensive program will be covering how allogeneic tissues in a block configuration are acquired, processed, clinically utilized to maximize outcomes/benefits, step-by-step techniques to increase ridge height and width predictably, instrumentation, and associated fees. Learn from the masters these exciting techniques which are changing the way implant dentistry and related bone grafting is currently being performed and will increasingly be practiced and performed in the near future. This program will be conducted with lectures, hand-outs, videos of the procedures, a complimentary copy of Dr. Garg's textbook "Bone Biology, Harvesting and Grafting for Dental Implants" from Quintessence Publishing, and a Hands-on Workshop on a take home model. Additionally, this program will serve as a certification program for Puros Block graft training.

Dr. Dennis Smiler and Dr. Muna Soltan

“Antral Membrane Balloon Elevation: Sinus and Socket-Lift for the Non-Surgical Clinician”

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Course Fee: $625

This workshop presents the Antral Membrane Balloon Elevation technique for sinus and socket-lift graft surgery. The AMBE is an office surgical procedure that can be utilized by the non-surgical specialist for site development in preparation for implants. The AMBE technique is reviewed in detail. The basic concepts of flap design, sinus membrane elevation, bone graft materials, and simultaneous implant site preparation are explained. The course objectives are to provide the clinician with knowledge and understanding of the surgical requirements for Antral Membrane Balloon Elevation. The workshop presentation by Dr. Smiler and Dr. Soltan will be a combination of lecture material, hand-outs, videos of selected procedures and hands-on model surgery.

Half-Day Courses

Dr. Glenn Gittelson

“Implant Prostetics: From Diagnosis to Delivery”

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Course Fee: $375

Two of three ways implants fail has to do with occlusion. Understanding implant occlusion is the key to implant longevity. Implants are not teeth. You must know and respect the difference. The proper thought process to follow when diagnosing, treatment planning and delivering an implant supported fixed prosthesis, including post-op care, will be presented. The course agenda will include: the difference between how implants vs. natural teeth respond to occlusal forces; how bone responds to different types of load and its significance to implants; the proper thought process to follow when diagnosing and treatment planning the occlusal aspect of and implant reconstruction: from single tooth to full arch cases; how implants fail and how to avoid their failure; proper use of a semi-adjustable articulator and face bow and why it is so important to use them; the significance of diagnostic wax ups, tooth placement guides and CT scans; fabrication of an implant supported prosthesis from impression to delivery; clinical cases, post-op care, fees.

Dr. William Locante

“Restorative and Prosthetic Techniques”

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Course Fee: $250

This course will discuss the features of the Camlog implant system, one of the most versatile implant systems both surgically and prosthetically. The key points of the presentation are: System overview; benefits of the Camlog system; unique restorative features and techniques; discussion on stability; elimination of screw loosening and fracturing; prosthetic ease of restoration

Dr. Leo Otis Hall, Dr. John Minichetti and Prof. Maurice Valen

“Osteocompression Using Immediate Implants with a Prefabricated Implant-Splinting Superstructure for Existing Lower Dentures”

Time: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Course Fee: $210 (10% donated to IDREF)

Many denture wearers experience discomfort and speech difficulty due to ill fitting dentures caused by progressive bone loss. Unfortunately, the cost of implant therapy with fixed or removable prostheses is often prohibitive to many. This seminar will introduce an economical prefabricated superstructure for immediate implant splinting that eliminates clinical impressions and expensive gold castings, providing reasonably priced therapy ($250-$300) for patients who could not otherwise afford fixed implant prostheses. This easy to use gold bar system resolves parallel issues, dynamic implant movement force overload, and functions as a suspension bridge cable assembly to flex with mandibular demands, preventing class II cantilever implant exfoliation. Designed for use with the LaminOss(r) Osteocompressive Immediate-Load Implant System, the SuperSplint(tm) utilizes the patient's existing lower denture for one-visit surgery and restoration. The course agenda will include: osteocompression and the benefits of electro-streaming potentials in bone implantation; surgical variations using the science of osteocompression for immediate-load implants; factors essential for successful implant in D4 bone density, diagnosis and treatment; step-by-step immediate-load implant placement; science and use of synthetic bioactive resorbable graft material with implants; day-of-surgery procedure for installing an immediate chairside implant-splinting system. Hands-on demonstration will include: use of a high-torque surgical motor to detect bone densities at intended implant sites; armamentarium and surgical technique to achieve and maintain Functional Osteocompression (immediate bone lamination) using the LaminOss(r) Osteocompressive Immediate-Load Implant; components and procedure to install the SuperSplint(tm) Prefabricated Immediate Implant-Splinting System with existing lower denture.

Dr. Carl Misch

“Maxillary and Mandibular Full Arch Biomechanics, Esthetics and Prosthetic Considerations”

Time: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Course Fee: $375

The reconstruction of the partial and completely edentulous maxillary arch has many interrelated conditions which affect long term success. The maxillary incisal edge is very specific to esthetics and speech. The resting and high lip line is important to assess prior to treatment. The occlusal vertical dimension and mandibular incisal edge is then established. The prosthetic considerations relate to materials, tooth position, tooth size, implant number and implant position. The sequence of treatment planning is key implant positions, patient force factors, bone density, implant number, implant size, bone volume, and occlusion. The sequence of treatment is maxillary incisal edge, occlusal vertical dimension, lower incisal edge, and posterior occlusal planes.
