The ADIA is an organization that is open to all office management or clinical team members. The ADIA encourages and provides continuing education, internationally, nationally and regionally.

Our Mission

To advance the field of Implant Dentistry through an organized vehicle for auxiliary education/contributions. The ADIA develops educational criteria and training for auxiliary certification. It provides education through annual meetings and certification programs. The ADIA offers several comprehensive one-day courses that provide information regarding all aspects of implant dentistry specifically geared for every member of the implant team.

Our Vision

Our vision is to introduce implants into every practice or increase implant practice through the "team" approach. We encourage communication and cooperation between all inter-office staff members as well as those from referral practices. The result should be an improved level of patient care and increased use of implants.

Credentials

The ADIA has three voluntary credentialing levels:  Certified Implant Auxiliary, Advanced Certified Implant Auxiliary and Fellowship.

The ADIA is a component society of the ICOI. Office management team members or clinical team members (i.e. surgical assistants, prosthetic assistants or hygienists) may apply for active membership. All members may begin to participate in these programs immediately upon joining the organization but must proceed in order.

ADIA Certified Implant Auxiliary:

Pre-requisite: Active ADIA Membership
Who can apply: All team members
Certified Requirements:
Attendance at a Certification Program or accumulation of 40 hours of continuing education. Continuing education units must be current (within the last 7 years). 75% of the required hours must be directly related to implant dentistry.

ADIA Advanced Certified Implant Auxiliary:

Pre-requisite:Active ADIA Certified Implant Auxiliary Membership
Who can apply: All team members
Advanced Certified Requirements:

  1. Attendance at a Certification Program or accumulation of 80 hours of continuing education. Continuing education units must be current (within the last 7 years). 75% of the required hours must be directly related to implant dentistry.
  2. Attendance of one ICOI/ADIA symposium in the two years immediately prior to application

ADIA Fellowship:

Pre-requisite: Active ADIA Advanced Certified Implant Auxiliary Membership
Who can apply: All team members
Fellowship Requirements:

  1. Attendance at a Certification Program
  2. Attendance of ADIA Implant Coordinator Program
  3. Accumulation of 120 hours of continuing education. Continuing education units must be current (within the last 7 years). 75% of the required hours must be directly related to implant dentistry.
  4. Attendance of one ICOI/ADIA symposium in the two years immediately prior to application.
  5. Submit one article for ADIA's website, perform one table clinic, or perform one lecture at any ICOI/ADIA symposium.
  6. One substantial activity within the implant field. For example, publish, lecture, run a community activity related to implant dentistry or produce an office form or brochure related to implant dentistry.

All applications and documentation should arrive at least six to eight weeks prior to the ICOI symposium at which you wish your credentials to be presented. Please also send via Fed-Ex, DHL, etc., in order to expedite delivery and guarantee the safety of the records. The sender should retain receipt of same.

How Can I Apply?

ADIA Certified, Advanced Certified or Fellowship application forms are available from our central office or on-line.

Applications are evaluated and processed each month. You need not wait for an entire year to apply or receive your credentials. As an ADIA credentialed member, you must be a current member and attend one (1) ADIA sponsored meeting every three years. We have a one time processing fee that must accompany the appropriate applications.

Since ADIA's first program in 1990, we have been in the forefront of auxiliary continuing implant education. As the first and only society to establish an organized vehicle for auxiliary certification and training, the ICOI has led the field. We have created and hosted our three certification programs locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. We continue to strive to make auxiliary education more accessible and affordable!

Dental Hygiene Implant Certification Program (DHICP):

Overview:
This is a comprehensive program that provides an informative overview of dental implantology. The program covers surgical, prosthetic and maintenance considerations. Additionally, participants are taught treatment planning for implant patients and the verbal and interdisciplinary skills needed to effectively work with implant patients. ALL TEAM MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, dental auxiliaries have:

  • Appreciation for the role of dental implants in the maintenance of oral health
  • Knowledge of the scientific basis of implant-host relations and interactions
  • A knowledge base related to client assessment, education, diagnosis, treatment planning, treatment, treatment associated complications, evaluation and maintenance procedures, referrals, and appropriate documentation on dental records
  • Competencies to perform hygiene procedures and demonstrate client home care procedures on implant cases
  • Knowledge to delineate the roles of the dental hygienist, office administrator, and clinical assistant in implant therapy
  • The skills in dental implantology to earn a certificate of completion and certification with the ADIA & PM

ADIA's Implant Coordinator Training Program:

Overview:

The mission of this program is to educate attendees regarding many aspects of dental implantology.  The program will present topics including: case presentation and financial arrangements, sample answers to commonly asked questions, medical/dental insurance, motivation, and marketing.  This program will give all auxiliaries an overview of practice management relating to implant dentistry.  ALL AUXILIARIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the need to include implants as a treatment modality
  2. Know essential terminology related to implant dentistry
  3. Discuss the consequences of non-treatment to patients
  4. Identify patients who would benefit from implant treatment
  5. Describe important techniques for effective case presentation
  6. Answer questions commonly asked by patients
  7. Explore how to discuss treatment fees and be able to present financial option to patients
  8. Differentiate between using dental and medical insurance codes
  9. Identify conditions that need additional documentation for insurance submission
  10. Understand medical/legal implications associated with dental implantology
  11. Recognize the need for informed consent
  12. Compose proper records to avoid litigation
  13. Develop office goals and team strategies
  14. Develop techniques to increase patient base
  15. Develop techniques for good intra/inter office communication and documentation

 

All attendees will receive the ADIA’s new handbook “The ADIA’s Guide to Simplifying Implant Dentistry”

Dental Assisting Implant Certification Program (DAICP)

Overview:

The program is designed to educate attendees regarding many aspects of dental implantology.  The focus will be on the role of the clinical dental assistant throughout various stages of implant therapy; predominantly treatment planning and responsibilities associated with surgical and prosthetic implant procedures. The program will examine case presentation, and indicators for success and identifying complications.  Attendees will explore different theories of implant management and receive a comprehensive view of current clinical procedures related to implantology.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Develop an appreciation for the role of dental implants in the maintenance of oral health
  • Discuss the consequences of non-therapy to patients
  • Develop terminology relevant to presenting implant cases to patients
  • Identify potential medical & medicinal complications related to implant dentistry
  • Develop a knowledge base related to treatment planning implant cases
  • Understand the laboratory procedures involved in implant therapy
  • Identify the steps involved in complex surgical implant cases
  • Learn the techniques involved in constructing implant temporaries
  • Understand medical/legal implications associated with dental implantology
  • Define the essential terms related to implantology and dental implants
  • Compare the types of dental implants
  • Identify the indications and contraindications for using different types of dental implants
  • Recognize the maxillary and mandibular anatomic considerations associated with implant placement
  • Assess anatomic limitations in relation to implant selection and placement
  • Identify the biomaterials used in dental implant therapy
  • Describe the diagnostic procedures used for implant therapy
  • Identify the risk factors that may influence the surgical, prosthodontic, and postsurgical phases of treatment
  • Identify the surgical armamentaria used for implant placement
  • Describe the fundamental presurgical, surgical, and postsurgical procedures for implant placement
  • Differentiate among various prosthodontic procedures for implant supported and/or retained prostheses

Practice Management Implant Certification Program

Mission Statement:

The mission of this program is to educate attendees regarding the non-clinical aspects of dental implantology.  The program will present topics including case presentation, answers to commonly asked questions, financial arrangements, medical/dental insurance, motivation and marketing.  This program will give all auxiliaries an overview of practice management relating to offices interested or already involved with dental implants.

Educational Goals:

This program is structured to provide basic knowledge and information for dental auxiliaries in the following areas:

              A.   The current status of dental implants and how implants play a role in dentistry

              B.   Terminology and definitions related to dental implants

              C.   Commonly asked questions relating to dental implants and appropriate responses               D.   Case presentation and fee presentation

              E.   Financial arrangements

              F.   Medical/dental insurance

              G.  Documentation and record keeping

              H.  Developing a practice plan and marketing a practice

              I.   Developing a patient base

              J.   Interdisciplinary care

Behavioral Objectives:

Upon completion of this program, attendees will be able to:

              A. Recognize the need to include the use of implants as a treatment modality

              B. Know essential terminology related to implantology and use analogous                                            terms with patients

              C. Discuss the consequences of non-therapy to patients
